1865 2 Cent (1865 2C) PCGS MS63 RB. Civil War Coin. This Civil War two-cent piece shows light brown toning on the central portion of the obverse and rim with more uniform toning on the reverse. Beneath the toning is subdued mint luster. Light abrasion is seen, in keeping with the grade, especially on the reverse. Except for the NTS, the strike is strong on both sides. On the 1865 two-cent piece there are two styles of 5’s, the plain and the fancy. Since the tip of the 5 on this coin is curve, it is the fancy style. Because the hub was injured, the D in UNITED is missing the top serif.

This is the first coin on which the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears. Originally it was supposed to be “God Our Trust,” but Treasury Secretary Chase requested the change.
